The IPL 2025 mega auction is being held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and the first day of the auction has ended. Among them, star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant became the most valuable player as he was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore. While Kings XI Punjab acquired Shreyas Iyer for Rs 2,675 crore. But Mumbai Indians were the first to use RTM in the mega auction and missed the opportunity to get back their star players. This player is none other than Aakash Madhwal.
Rajasthan Royals acquire Akash Madhwal
Akash Madhwal has been performing well for Mumbai Indians for a while now and he has proven to be very economical. He took 14 wickets in IPL 2023 and 5 wickets in IPL 2024. He has also taken 5 wickets in the IPL. Madhwal also has good lines and length and is known for taking wickets on important occasions. The race for Madhwar has also emerged between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab. But Mumbai Indians did not bid for the player in the auction. What’s special is that Mumbai don’t even have an option for RATeam as the team has already used it for Naman Dheer. In this case, if Mumbai has RTM, the player can be retrieved.
Later in the auction, Rajasthan Royals included Akash Madhwal in their team for Rs 120 crore. He has the ability to lead the team out of any difficulty. He took 16 wickets in first-class matches. He has 25 wickets in the Group A list.
Mumbai bought only four players
On the first day of the auction, Mumbai Indians bought only four players. These include Trent Boult, Naman Deol, Robin Mintz and Karn Sharma. Ahead of the IPL reservations, Mumbai retained Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Tilak Verma. He has an RTM for Naman Dheer. Mumbai are considered one of the most successful teams in the IPL, having won the title five times under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
