A total of 110 passengers took the Neelkamal boat from Gate of India to Elephanta Caves. Passengers claimed that the incident occurred not due to engine failure but due to negligence. The Navy has begun an investigation into the matter.

The authorities have registered an FIR against the speedboat driver and others for negligent navigation. Regarding this incident, some people questioned whether it was correct for the speedboat not to choose a densely populated area for its trial voyage. If they had tested in other open areas, this accident could have been avoided.
