More than 800 birth certificates issued from a single ID in UP, orders given for investigation

A surprising case has come to light from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. Officials have found in the investigation that a single user ID of a village was used to issue birth certificates of 814 persons from several states in less than two years. After the matter came to light, investigation has been started.

Officials said that the population of Sinchawali Sani village is about 1 thousand 100. However, a total of 814 birth certificates were issued using the village user ID for the Civil Registration System (CRS) in the last 19 months. These certificates have been issued not only for residents of Uttar Pradesh but also for individuals from other states including Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Karnataka.

The official said, so far in the investigation it has been found that 780 certificates have been issued in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Jharkhand, 12 in Bihar, four each in Madhya Pradesh and Haryana and one in Karnataka. The number of such cases may increase as the investigation progresses.

Ishwar Chand, who reported the matter to senior officials, said he got access to the CRS portal on August 5. Till then 814 birth certificates had been issued through ID. In all these certificates, Sinchawali Sani was recorded as the place of birth.

The District Magistrate said this in the matter

District Magistrate Ashish Kumar said that investigation has been started. Hathras Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Manjeet Singh has been assigned the task of leading the investigation. Efforts are being made to find out how the ID was leaked. The ID was recently handed over to the Panchayat Secretary of Sinchawali Sani. The source and misuse of the investigation leak will be detected soon.
