Sexual Harassment Cases: M Mukesh, a MLA of the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala and actor, appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Tuesday. This SIT is investigating a sexual harassment case registered based on a complaint by a female actress.

MLA and actor Mukesh, who was granted anticipatory bail at the Ernakulam court at 9.45 am on Tuesday, appeared before the SIT at the coastal police headquarters. He was interrogated there for three and a half hours.

Let us tell you that two cases have been registered against Mukesh, one by Vadakanchery police and the other by Maradu police.

On September 5, the district and district court in Ernakulam granted bail to Mukesh in a rape case filed by the actress, in which Mukesh also leveled more allegations of sexual harassment.

Based on the woman’s allegations, an FIR was registered against actor Mukesh under IPC Section 376 (rape). He claimed that the complainant made such accusations against him because the complainant was trying to blackmail him but he was not prepared to give in to her.

After the disclosure of the Judicial Hema Commission report, several directors and actors were accused of sexual harassment and several FIRs have been filed against several prominent figures in the Malayalam film industry.

The commission was set up by the Kerala government after the 2017 attack on the actress. Its report highlighted cases of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry.

In response to these allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation involving multiple actors and directors, the state government announced on August 25 the establishment of a seven-member special investigation team to investigate the allegations.
