Micromax and Phison Electronics form joint venture to develop memory chips

New Delhi: Indian mobile phone company Micromax Informatics has partnered with Taiwanese NAND memory chip maker Phison to develop high-end storage products for enterprise, automotive and artificial intelligence models.

The 55:45 joint venture, called MiPhi, will start producing memory chips, or solid-state drives (SSDs), in India from Micromax’s Greater Noida plant next year and will train users on how to integrate the chips with existing infrastructure.

“By combining our local market expertise with Phison’s key technology capabilities, we are poised to deliver breakthrough solutions,” Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Micromax Informatics, said in a press release on Thursday.

“Through this collaboration, we aim to reduce the cost of GPUs by one-tenth by achieving the lowest cost per token globally. This will help us disrupt the AI ​​landscape not just in India but in specific agreed geographies. ,” Sharma said.

As part of its go-to-market strategy, MiPhi will leverage Micromax’s established relationships with customers in India and Phison’s advanced NAND storage solutions for cross-industry collaborations.

Local sales teams across India will focus on embedded solutions for automotive, IoT, mobile devices, data centers, IT centers, consumer devices, and removable storage devices and systems. The company will also focus on custom-designed solutions for artificial intelligence and security applications

MiPhi will focus on custom-designed NAND storage solutions for artificial intelligence, enterprise and automotive use cases, catering to the needs of India and specific agreed markets.

India has been an epicenter of technology growth and the vision set by the government further enables local companies to innovate at an exponentially higher rate, said Phison CEO KS Pua.

He added: “By combining Micromax’s local market understanding with Phison’s world-class storage technology, we are able to create impactful solutions in SMB, automotive, IoT, AI, enterprise workloads and more ”

Pua pointed out that the company’s technology AIadaptive can help institutions and companies reduce the training cost of AI models by one-tenth, which will be its promotion to the Indian market.
