Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the second phase of the metro rail route between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar from Sector-1, Gandhinagar on September 16. This new route of metro service will cover GNLU, PDEU, GIFT City, Raison, Randesan, Dhaula Kuan Circle, Infocity and Sector 1 between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The total project cost for the second phase of the metro is Rs 5,384 crore.

This metro will run on eight stations of Gandhinagar
The second phase of the metro rail network is being started by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in partnership with the Government of Gujarat and the Government of India. Which will provide metro rail connectivity from Motera in Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar. A corridor of one phase will go up to Gift City. Which is up to 21 kilometers. The metro will initially run on eight stations in Gandhinagar. In the coming time, the metro will go to Secretariat, Akshardham, Old Secretariat, Sector 16, Sector 24 and Mahatma Mandir.

In cities like Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, metro service will prove to be a reliable mode of transport as compared to the increasing traffic and expensive transportation. The 33.5 km journey from APMC in Vasna, Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar Sector-1 will be completed in 65 minutes through metro for just 35 rupees. If this journey is done by taxi, it takes about 80 minutes, the fare of which goes up to 400 rupees. The fare in rickshaw is 375 rupees. But traveling by metro will save time and money of the passengers. Which will benefit the passengers, students and employees working in the areas around Gandhinagar and Gift City. Traffic on the roads will be smooth, which will help in reducing pollution.

The second phase of the metro route is 21 km long, which will connect Motera in Ahmedabad to Sector-1, Gandhinagar. The metro rail will run from Motera to eight stations in Gandhinagar. These include GNLU, PDEU, GIFT City, Raisen, Randesan, Dhaula Kuan Circle, Infocity and Sector-1. The total cost of the Metro Phase-II project is Rs 5,384 crore. This metro route will reduce the travel time between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar considerably. Passengers can reach GIFT City in Gandhinagar from Vasna APMC in Ahmedabad within an hour at a cost of just Rs 35.
