People’s Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti.
After the disastrous defeat in the Kashmir Assembly elections, Mehbooba Mufti was seen raising one issue or another. At the same time, he raised the issue of Kashmir’s identity. In an interview with the media, he narrated the increasing threat to Kashmir’s resources from many projects. In addition, he also made many serious accusations against the central government.
He further said that the identity of Kashmir is not limited to culture but also includes natural resources such as forests and farmlands. Mehbooba claimed that the central government’s policies had not only destroyed Kashmir’s uniqueness but also its natural resources.
Project threats to resources
Talking about development projects such as Rajouri-Baramulla Expressway Project, Gallandar Ring Road, Mehbooba Mufti said that these projects are affecting agricultural land on a large scale. He said the projects would have an impact on natural resources and the environment.
Mehbooba said some railway projects are being planned to be taken to tourist destinations, which may cause environmental damage. Citing the Joshimath and Kedarnath tragedies in Uttarakhand as examples, he said there was a need to learn lessons from these tragedies. Mehbooba said promotion of development and tourism was necessary but should not be at the expense of natural beauty and the environment.
The national conference was also surrounded
Mehbooba Mufti has questioned laws targeting youth and methods of compensation for land acquisition. He said that after 370 people were demolished, the government should provide compensation according to the new policy, but only symbolic compensation was given under the old law, and people were deceived. He lashed out at the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and its MPs, saying they failed to raise such issues in Parliament.
Mehbooba Mufti said if new towns were built to relocate crowded areas, it was welcome but the safety of farmland should be kept in mind. He said the People’s Democratic Party was not against development but development should not be at the expense of the natural, environmental and cultural beauty of Kashmir.
