A major accident took place in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening. A dilapidated three-storey building collapsed here, killing 10 people, while the condition of five people is critical. All the deceased belonged to the same family. There was a stampede at the spot after the building collapsed. Police, fire brigade along with SDRF teams reached the spot and started the rescue operation. As a precaution, houses around the incident spot have also been evacuated.

This incident is from Zakir Colony of Lohiya Nagar police station area, where a 35-year-old building with two floors along with the ground floor collapsed. It is being told that a dairy used to run on the ground floor. Many milch animals were also tied here and all the people of the house used to live on the upper two floors.

The teams engaged in the rescue operation also faced a lot of problems because this is an old area of ​​the city. The streets here are very narrow, due to which big machines and bulldozers could not come for rescue. Small machines and bulldozers of the Municipal Corporation have been brought in their place. It is being told that it has been raining ever since the house collapsed.

What did the DM of Meerut say?

Meerut District Magistrate Deepak Meena has said that the administration was given a list of 15 people present inside the building. All those 15 people have been rescued. Out of these, 10 people have died, while five people are undergoing treatment in the hospital in critical condition. However, we will continue the rescue operation until the debris is removed from there.

He said that among those buried under the debris, there is only one man, while there are three women, whose age is more than 18 years. Apart from these, all are children, whose age is less than 18 years. The DM said that the number of animals that died in the debris is not clear. According to people, 10 animals were buried under the debris, but our focus is to save the people first.

CM Yogi had taken cognizance of the accident

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi has taken cognizance of the accident in Meerut. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work. He has also given instructions for proper treatment of the injured. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, rescue teams are engaged in relief work on the spot.
