Brahmayoni hill is in Gaya district of Bihar. This hill is full of medicinal plant Gudmar which reduces diabetes. This plant contains gymnemic acid, which reduces the sugar level in the blood. This study has been done by researchers of Magadh University. This plant is also being used in CSIR’s medicine BGR-34.

The specialty of gymnemic acid is that it fills the receptor space in the outer layer of the intestine. This reduces the urge to eat sweets. The intestine reduces the absorption of sugar molecules, due to which the sugar level in the blood reduces. This is an excellent treatment for diabetic patients.

Gudmar also contains flavonoids and saponins, which regulate lipid metabolism. Flavonoids contain antioxidants. Saponin reduces cholesterol. Researchers from Magadh University, Bihar have stated in their study in the International Journal of Creative Research Thoughts (IJCRT) that Gudmar (Gymnema sylvestre) is one of the three medicinal plants found on Brahmayoni hill.

For centuries, traditional healers in the area around this hill used these natural chemicals to treat many diseases including diabetes. CSIR has mixed Gudmar in its medicine. Due to jaggery, the lipid profile in the body also remains balanced. In 2022, New Delhi AIIMS has confirmed in a study that this medicine is effective in reducing obesity along with blood sugar.

Along with Gudmar, this medicine also includes Ayurvedic medicines like Daruharidra, Giloy, Vijaysar, Majith and Maithika. Along with keeping diabetes, lipid profile and metabolism in check, it also increases the amount of antioxidants. There has been a demand for further study on the Gudmar plant, so that more medical options can be found.
