2024-09-24 15:41:32 : MediaTek confirmed on social media that the company will launch its flagship mobile chipset in China on October 9. While the chipmaker hasn’t delved into the details of its upcoming smartphone processor, it’s widely believed to be the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC, which was recently claimed to be more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip or even Apple’s latest A18 Pro chipset In terms of GPU benchmarks.

In a post on Chinese social media platform Weibo, an official from MediaTek revealed that “a new generation of MediaTek flagship chipsets will be launched soon.” It will premiere at 10:30 am local time on October 9. While the company didn’t reveal details about the chipset, it has confirmed that it comes with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that enables artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

A recent report suggests that the so-called MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC may perform better in some aspects compared to other flagship mobile processors such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the new Apple A18 Pro. It reportedly achieved 134fps on the GFX Aztec 1440p off-screen Vulcan benchmark, which is about 86% better than the A18 Pro.

The score is also said to be 41% higher than Snapdragon’s current-generation flagship processors. The dedicated NPU performance on the Dimensity 9400 SoC may increase by 40% compared to the previous generation.

In addition to the processing power, the efficiency of the MediaTek chipset is also said to have been improved, according to reports. Compared with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Dimensity 9400 is said to require only 30% of power to complete similar tasks.

However, these upgrades may come at a price – smartphones equipped with this chipset may be more expensive than their predecessors. The Oppo Find X8 series is speculated to be among the first phones to be powered by the Dimensity 9400 chipset, while Vivo’s so-called X200 series may also have models running MediaTek’s upcoming mobile processors.
