India and China reaffirmed their commitment to find a “fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable framework” to resolve the border issue based on the political parameters and guiding principles agreed in 2005. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed this commitment while responding to a question on the meeting of special representatives of India and China in Beijing at a press conference on Friday.

When asked about the six-point agreement between the two countries that was not mentioned in the press release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs but was mentioned by China, Jaiswal said he could speak on behalf of the press release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs and could share details of the same.

“We have provided details of the issues discussed in a press release,” he said. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to explore a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable framework for resolving the boundary issue based on the political parameters and guiding principles agreed in 2005. The 2005 Agreement is available on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

During the meeting, the special representatives of the two countries emphasized the need to ensure a peaceful situation on the ground. So that the normal development of border relations between the two countries will not be hindered. It is worth noting that the first SR meeting in 2020 was held in the wake of tensions in the western section of the China-India border.
