Mariah Carey’s Dissatisfaction: Overhead lighting in elevators and doorways is her worst nightmare

October 16, 2024: Mariah Carey wants to look her best every day of the year. In a segment she recently appeared on iHeart Radio’s “Las Culturistas Podcast,” the pop icon revealed her deep distaste for unflattering lighting in public spaces, especially harsh overhead lights.

“I can’t stand the overhead lights,” Carey admits. “Why are they doing this to us? Actually, it’s not even ‘us’, it’s just me,” she added with her signature diva charm.

The 55-year-old Grammy-winning singer has earned the right to be picky, and she didn’t hesitate to explain how bad lighting—especially in places like elevators, doorways, and gyms—suffers from her. “I’m not going to the gym,” she quipped. “I’m just saying.”

For Carey, natural sunlight is a better option, but only at certain times. “If it’s sunset, the sun is good,” she explains. “I’d love to go outside and put on a little hat or something because the sun is caressing your skin.” But she added a warning: “The sun is not good for you, so you have to be careful.”

As for overhead lighting, the Queen of Pop has one last complaint: “It makes me sick.”
