On the ongoing tension in Manipur, senior Congress leaders have said that Metais, Kukijos and Nagas can coexist in a state only with regional autonomy. Demand action against P Chidambaram
Manipur Congress leaders on Wednesday wrote to party president Mallikarjun Haq saying that we completely condemn Chidambaram’s post on the crisis in Manipur. Meanwhile, Congress leaders reiterated the party’s commitment to national unity and integrity and demanded immediate action against former finance minister Chidambaram. The letter said the language and sentiments of senior congressional leaders were deeply inappropriate given the current environment of tension, public grief and escalating political sensitivities in the state.
Letter to Party Chairman Hager after the meeting
The letter has been sent to party president Mallikarjun Kharge after the state Assembly session on Tuesday. Members of the National People’s Congress Legislature, members of the National People’s Congress Working Committee and former Party and State Chairman attended the event. Regarding the matter, former chief minister Okram Igbobi Singh said he spoke to party president Mallikarjun Haq after seeing Chidambaram’s post. He said the statement could be Chidambaram’s personal opinion but could send the wrong message to political parties in the state.
