Tensions have started rising again in Manipur. A woman was shot dead by militants in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Saturday. The incident occurred in the Seton area when the woman went to tend crops with other farmers. The militants then began firing from the hill. One of the women died.
Officials said the woman was working in a rice field. Meanwhile, the woman died at the scene from a gunshot wound. He said tensions spread in the village after the incident. Locals alleged that central forces deployed in the area failed to take action to prevent such attacks.
A woman also died in Jilibam County
Meanwhile, officials said additional security forces have been deployed to Seton area in Bishnupur district following the incident. Earlier on Thursday evening, news of the death of a woman was also reported in Jelonhamal village in Jiribam district. The incident occurred two days after a 31-year-old woman was killed in an unknown attack.
Recently, tensions have started rising again in Manipur. Recently, police arrested four members of the banned group “Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup” (KYKL). The banned group is accused of kidnapping and assaulting a 23-year-old railway driver. The police arrested all four accused during a raid in Urup Mayai Leekai.
More than 200 people have died so far
Police arrested four SOREPA members. In addition, weapons were also recovered from their possession. The accused were identified as Hijam Nikhil Singh, Hijam Thanglen Meiti, Thongam Ningthem Singh and Gobin Elangbam. Ethnic clashes between people from the Meitei and Kuki communities last May left more than 200 people dead and thousands more homeless.
