Just days after a failed attempt at former US President Donald Trump‘s assassination, a man was arrested with an AK-47 rifle in the area where the Republican National Convention is being held, reports said. According to a Fox News report, the man was carrying this weapon in his backpack when he was nabbed by security officials. Several prominent leaders from the Republican Party have gathered at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee for a convention this week.

“United States Capitol Police initially observed the suspect looking suspicious, wearing a ski mask and a large tactical backpack in the street,” CNN reported quoting Milwaukee Police Department.

In a separate incident, police fatally shot a man wielding two knives near the convention. Identified by relatives as 43-year-old Samuel Sharpe, he had knives in each hand and charged at an unarmed individual, prompting officers to open fire. Two knives were recovered at the scene.

This incident follows a recent shooting where a 20-year-old man attempted to assassinate 78-year-old former President Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Trump survived with a nicked ear after Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at him, leaving him with a bloodied face.
