The ’90s Bollywood star looks back on her spiritual journey, connection with Vicky Goswami and an emotional comeback decades later.
Mumbai, December 18: actor Mamta KulkarniKnown for her iconic performances in the 90s, she is back in Mumbai after 25 years, sparking nostalgia among her fans. She clarified in an interview with the media that her comeback has nothing to do with a comeback to Bollywood but marks a new chapter in her spiritual journey.
On Vicky Goswami and drug charges
Solve her ties to alleged drug lord Vicky GoswamiMamta said:
“I have no connection to the drug world and have never met anyone involved. Yes, I connected with Vicky Goswami in 1996 when a mentor came into my life during the early stages of my spiritual journey ”
Mamta explained how she supported Goswami during his imprisonment in Dubai, visited him and dedicated herself to meditation and prayer for many years.
“When Vicky was in jail in Dubai, he called me. I met him and spent 12 years focusing on spirituality. By the time he was released from prison in 2012, I had moved beyond desires like love or marriage.”
Mamta further distanced herself from Goswami’s legal troubles and clarified:
“The last time I contacted Vicky was in 2016. From then until now, my life has been dedicated to my spiritual practice.”
Return to India, emotional return
Mamta shared her excitement on arriving in Mumbai after decades abroad.
“I was so emotional seeing my country from the plane. I had tears in my eyes when I walked out of Mumbai airport for the first time in 25 years.”
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Mamta wrote;
“Returning to my home country after 25 years. After 12 years of austerity, I participated in the 2012 Kumbh Mela and came back again after 12 years for the 2025 Kumbh Mela.”
Life outside bollywood
Mamta Kulkarni has made a name for herself with credits such as Karan Arjun and Potatosharing the screen with Bollywood icons e.g. Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. However, she chose to step away from the spotlight in the early 2000s, embracing a life abroad focused on spirituality.

In 2017, Mamta, along with Goswami, faced charges related to a drug trafficking case. Non-bailable arrest warrants were issued for both men, linking them to a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration sting operation. However, Mamta has always denied involvement and reiterated her mental focus during that period.
When Mamta returns to Mumbai, her journey symbolizes not only a physical return but also a profound transformation rooted in spirituality and reflection.
