Mahindra Thar Roxx Variants Explained: Mahindra & Mahindra has officially launched the five-door model of its famous SUV Thar, Thar ROXX, for sale today on the occasion of Independence Day. The company has launched this SUV in the market at a very affordable price.
The starting price of the petrol model of the new Thar Roxx starts at just Rs 12.99 lakh and the price of the diesel variant starts at Rs 13.99 lakh. The company had announced the prices of only its base variants late last night, today the prices of almost all its variants have been announced. However, the prices of some more variants are yet to be announced which the company will make public after booking.
Bookings and Delivery:
The company says that the test drive of Thar Roxx will start from September 14. After this, official booking will be started from 3rd October. This SUV can be booked through the company’s website and authorized dealerships. The delivery of the new five-door Thar Rocks will start on the occasion of Dussehra. How is the new Thar Roxx:
Compared to the 3-door Thar, the Thar Rocks gets a completely redesigned front grille that comes with 6 double-stacked slots. Whereas 7 slots have been provided in Thar 3-door. The headlamps retain their roundshape design, but they now get an LED projector setup with C-shaped daytime running lamps. LED fog lamps are expected to be available in higher variants. The front bumper adds some unique design elements, including the integrated fog lamp housing and brushed aluminum bits in the centre.
18-inch alloy wheels have been provided in the mid variant of Rocks. Whereas the higher variants are expected to have chunky wheel arches and stylish 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The front door looks similar to the standard Thar, the rear door has a unique vertically positioned handle. The shape of the quarter glass of the rear door is triangular, which seems inspired by the Thar EV concept. The Thar Rocks will have a dual-tone paint shade for most variants – with a contrasting black roof – which will give it a removable hardtop look.

Thar Roxx MX1 (Features and Engine):
Price: Petrol MT- 12.99 lakh, Diesel MT- 13.99 lakh
In the base variant of Thar Roxx, the company has given 2.0 liter turbo petrol engine which generates power of 162hp and torque of 330Nm. The petrol engine is mated to a manual gearbox. In the diesel option, the company has given a diesel engine of 2.2 liter capacity, which generates power of 152hp and torque of 330Nm. It is also linked to manual transmission gearbox.
Talking about the features, MX1 has been provided with multilink rear suspension system with Watts linkage. It has been provided with brake locking differential. The company says that its water wading capacity is 650 mm. Dual 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation further enhance its cabin. Apart from this, facility to adjust drive seat height is also provided.
It has LED projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, dual-tone metal top, 18-inch steel wheels, push start button, rear seat split in 60:40 ratio. Inside, the Thar Rocks only has a 3-door dashboard. But some premium elements like soft-touch material are seen on the dashboard and door pads. Talking about safety, three-pointed seat belts for all passengers, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), 6 airbags, brake locking differential, electronic power steering are included.
Thar Roxx MX3 (Features and Engine):
Price: Petrol AT- 14.99 Lakh, Diesel MT- 15.99 Lakh
The Roxx MX3 includes driving modes (Zip and Zoom) and terrain modes (Snow, Sand and Mud) in addition to the features offered in the previous MX1 model. Apart from this, rear camera, hill accent and descent assist, traction control system has been provided. Rear disc brakes are also provided in the petrol automatic variant. This variant has the facility of cruise control, arm rest on the rear seat, auto dimming in side rear view mirror (IRVM), wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play support and smartphone charging.
Thar Roxx AX3 L (Features and Engine):
Price: Rs 16.99 lakh (diesel only)
Apart from the previous model MX3, this variant has been provided with Advanced Driving Assist System (ADAS) suite. Which makes the safety level of this SUV even better. It also includes a 10.25-inch digital driver display, DTS sound staging and automatic climate control. This variant is currently coming only with diesel engine option.
Thar Roxx MX5 (Features and Engine):
Price: Rs 16.99 lakh (diesel only, manual)
The MX5 variant of Thar Rocks is currently available in diesel manual variant. Apart from AX3 L, it has C-shaped LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, single pane sunroof, leather seat and steering wheel cover, ambient lighting, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), auto headlights and wipers, front parking sensors. Four wheel drive (4×4) system is being offered as an option in this variant. Electronic locking differential will also be available in it.
Thar Roxx AX5 L, AX7 (Features and Engine):
Price: Rs 18.99 lakh (diesel only, manual)
Of these two variants, which come only with Diesel engine, the AX5 L model is available with automatic transmission. In addition to the features offered in the previous model, the AX5 L has an electronic parking brake.
Whereas AX7 variant comes with manual transmission. In the AX7 L variant, the company has provided panoramic sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels, 6-way adjustable driving seat, ventilated front seat, cooled glove box, 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, power folding out side rear view mirror (ORVM). Features like 9 speakers of Harman Cordon are available. In this top variant, the company has also provided all wheel drive system which comes with smart crawl system. This is a kind of off-road cruise control system which can be used between 2.5 km/h to 30 km/h.
