Maharashtra: Know who Yogendra Pawar is, who will contest Baramati seat with Ajit Pawar

Maharashtra’s 288 assembly seats will go to polls on November 20. All parties have begun preparations and announced their candidate lists. The Baramati seat is once again at the center of discussions. Because the competition here will be between uncle and nephew. In fact, Ajit Pawar has announced his name for this seat. And Sharad Pawar has now appointed his grandson, Ajit Pawar’s nephew Yogendra, as the candidate for the seat.

Who is Yogendra Pawar

Yogendra Pawar is the grandson of Sharad Pawar and the son of Srinivas Pawar, brother of Ajit Pawar. Sharad Pawar fielded him against Ajit from Baramati. Yugendra holds a BS in Business Administration (Northeastern University, Boston). Earlier, Yogendra had appeared at Sharad Pawar’s political rally. Yugendra is also the treasurer of Vidya Pratisthan, an educational institution founded by Sharad Pawar. He played an important role in Supriya Sule’s campaign during the Lok Sabha elections.

Why is the Baramati seat special for Ajit Pawar?

Ajit Pawar has been representing Baramati Assembly constituency since 1993. Baramati Assembly is part of the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency. Ajit Pawar defeated the BJP candidate from the Baramati Assembly seat in 2019 by a record margin of 165,000 votes. Now he will face a challenge from his nephew Yogendra. However, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar fell behind by 48,000 votes in Baramati Assembly constituency.

Maharashtra’s 288 assembly seats will go to polls on November 20. Results will be announced on November 23. If we talk about the last assembly elections, the BJP won 105 seats, the Shiv Sena 56 seats, the NCP 54 seats and the Congress 44 seats. However, after the elections, the Shiv Sena broke away from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and formed the government in alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray becomes chief minister.
