Sharad Pawar may take over as Prime Minister after 29 years
Can Sharad Pawar retain the post of Maharashtra Chief Minister after 29 years? Given the political equation that has taken shape after the vote, the matter is being discussed from Mumbai to Delhi. It is said that whatever the outcome of the election, the keys to power will remain in Pawar’s hands.
The election results for 288 seats in Maharashtra will be announced on November 23. It takes 145 MLAs to form the state’s government.
Only 3 days left to form government
Votes will be counted in Maharashtra on November 23 and the parliamentary term ends on November 26. If the request to form a government is not made within 3 days, the presidential ruling can be implemented in the state.
If the President’s Rule is in effect, the ball will be played on center court. It is said that in order to avoid a similar situation, all parties will work hard to form a government as soon as possible. Pawar can take advantage of this.
Since the President came to power in 2019, Pawar has retained many important departments such as finance within the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
The Pawar family holds about 70 seats
In all exit polls for Maharashtra, Pawar is expected to get around 70 seats. Candidates Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar are vying for around 42 seats in the Assembly.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Sharad Pawar is leading in 38 parliamentary seats and Ajit Pawar is leading in 6 seats. There is also room for reversal in both.
Ajit Pawar has spoken out against the BJP’s attempts to polarize the election. Because of this, Junior Pawar has been a target of Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP.
Because of this power, it is said that the chief minister this time can be held by the Pawar family.
Anyone’s formula is neither a friend nor an enemy
Sharad Pawar has little friendship or enmity with anyone in Maharashtra politics. Pawar, who supported the BJP in 2014, sided with Uddhav in 2019. His old colleague and Ajit candidate Nawab Malik recently claimed that Sharad Pawar could go either way.
Interestingly, neither Mahavikas Aghadi nor Mahayuti has revealed the face of the CM this time. In this case, there is room for the CM position on both sides.
What is going on in Pawar’s mind?
Sharad Pawar, 84, put all his energy into this election. Throughout the election period, he spoke at approximately 55 rallies. At every rally, Pawar talks only about taking Maharashtra in a new direction.
Senior Pawar also made important comments on Jayant Patil at a rally in Islampur. Addressing the rally, Sharad Pawar said that Jayant now has to take the responsibility of the entire state, so be prepared from now on.
After Pawar’s remarks, senior officials in Maharashtra raised questions as to what on earth he was thinking.
Has not received the chairmanship since 1995
After losing the 1995 assembly elections, Sharad Pawar never became chief minister. Thereafter, he played the role of kingmaker in Maharashtra politics about four times but kept away from the chief minister’s post due to political equations.
Chhagan Bhujbal and Ajit Pawar of Pawar’s party have undoubtedly served as deputy chief ministers in many governments. Ajit remains as deputy chief minister.
Sharad is 89 years old and Ajit is 60 years old.
Sharad Pawar is contesting from 89 assembly seats under the Mahavikas Aghadi banner. Sharad is contesting against Ajit Group candidates for 42 seats. In the remaining 47 seats, Sharad’s candidates are in direct competition with Shiv Sena (Shinde) and BJP candidates.
Ajit Pawar is contesting from around 60 seats in this election. Apart from Sharad, the Ajit group is contesting most of the seats from the Congress.
