Maharashtra: A glimpse of nepotism in BJP’s first list! Do you know how many children of former ministers the party has nominated as candidates?

The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced the first list of 99 candidates for the Maharashtra assembly elections. However, as with this list, the party has also been accused of promoting nepotism. Santosh Danve, son of former Union minister Raosaheb Danve, has been nominated again. Meanwhile, Nitish Rane, son of former Union minister Narayan Rane, has once again emerged as the candidate from Kankarvalli constituency in Sindhudurg district.

Shreejay Chavan bagged the BJP ticket from Nanded Pokkal constituency in place of his father Ashok Chavan. Former chief minister Ashok Chavan recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and was appointed to the Rajya Sabha.

Tickets are given to people close to the leader

Siddharth Shirole, son of former MP Anil Shirole, has emerged as candidate from Shivaji Nagar constituency in Pune. In Chinchwad, Ashwini Jagtap, wife of late MLA Laxman Jagtap, got the ticket instead of his brother-in-law Shankar Jagtap. Amol Javale from Raver in Jalgaon and Pratibha Pahap from Shirgonda in Ahalianagar Pratibha Pachpute was also selected as a candidate. Amol is the son of late BJP MP Haribal Jawale and Pratibha is the wife of BJP MP Baban Rao Pakhput.

Sambhaji Patil Nirangkar, grandson of former BJP minister and ex-chief minister Shivaji Rao Patil Nirangkar, has once again emerged as the candidate for Niranga seat in Latur district . Amal Mahadik, brother of BJP Rajya Sabha member Dhananjay Mahadik, has once again won the seat from the Kolhapur South assembly seat which he won in 2014. Former MP Vinod Shelar, brother of the BJP’s Mumbai chief and sitting MP Ashish Shelar, have bagged tickets from the Malad seat.

The BJP is also betting on some new faces

The party has also fielded some new faces, including Rahul Awadh, son of former minister Prakash Awadh, who will contest against Ichakaranji. Other new faces who got tickets include Shivajirao Kardile (Rahuri), Meghna Bordikar (Jintur) and Sulabha Gaikwad, wife of sitting MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, who is serving jail term for shooting a Sena party worker of CM Shinde.
