How much has the Maharashtra candidate’s net worth increased?
During the Maharashtra assembly elections, the asset information of the two major alliance candidates in the state, Mahayutthi and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) came to light. Over the past five years, the net worth increases of both coalition candidates have been disclosed. According to the Informed Voter Project, the assets of Mahayutthia’s candidate in Mumbai increased by 150%. MVA candidates’ assets increased by 20%.
Similarly, in Maharashtra, the assets of Mahayuti candidates increased by an average of 59%, while those of Mahavikas Aghadi candidates increased by an average of 18%. The financial wealth of Mahayutthia candidates in Mumbai has increased by an average of 150% in five years, the report said. The average wealth of Mahayuti candidates in 2019 was Rs 62.5 crore. By 2024, this number will increase to 156.4 billion rupees.
How Much Have MVA Candidates Wealth Increased?
MVA candidates, on the other hand, saw their wealth increase by only 20% on average. The wealth in 2019 was Rs 273 million and will increase to Rs 328 million in 2024. Similarly, the wealth of Mahayudhi candidates increased by an average of 59% in 5 years. His average wealth was Rs 296 million in 2019, which increased to Rs 471 million in 2024. MVA candidates, on the other hand, saw their assets increase by 18%.
Wealth grows 17 times faster
The report also pointed out that while the average annual wealth growth rate of ordinary Indians was only 0.7% in the past four years, the wealth growth rate of candidates related to Maharashtra Mahayutti has been 17 times faster. According to the report, the wealth growth rate of MVA candidates is 70% lower than that of Mahayuthi candidates and five times that of typical Indians.
These figures were obtained from the candidates’ affidavits. Mahadev Ghatak of the Shiv Sena (UBT) from Bhiwandi Rural has seen the highest increase in wealth over the past five years, the report said. His wealth increased by 1,724%. Followed by Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Shirsat from West Rangabad. His wealth increased by 663%.

In terms of biggest assets, the top three leaders are all from the BJP. Among them, Parag Shah of Ghatkopar (E) tops the list with assets worth Rs 3,383.07 crore. Prashant Thakur of Panvel ranks second with assets of Rs 475.86 crore and Mangal Prabhat Lodha of Malabar Hill ranks third with assets of Rs 447.1 crore. Pratap Sarnaik, Abu Azmi, Milind Deora, Shaina NC, Rahul Narvekar, Shivendraraje Bhonsle, Deepak Kesarkar and Ajit Pawar are also included in this list.
