The Supreme Court on Tuesday, November 5, upheld the constitutional validity of the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Act, 2004 while overruling the Allahabad High Court ruling. The High Court has ordered the UP government to admit students from madrassas to regular schools. The Supreme Court stayed the order.
Following the Supreme Court’s verdict, Muslim religious leaders and opposition parties on Tuesday welcomed and appreciated the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the validity of the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Board Act. Maulana Khalid Rashid Faranji Mahali, senior member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said that now following the Supreme Court ruling, madrassas can operate with complete freedom.
Madrasas provide many IAS and IPS to the country
He said: “How can the laws made by the government be unconstitutional? Thousands of people are associated with these madrassas and they have got a lot of relief from the Supreme Court judgment. Now we have complete freedom to regulate our madrassas .” Meanwhile, Maulana Yasoob Abbas, spokesperson of the All India Shia Personal Law Board, said the madrassas dispatched many IAS and IPS officers to the country.
Madrasas played an important role in the independence process
“If any madrasa takes the wrong path, action should be taken against it, but all madrassas should not be viewed with suspicion,” Abbas told PTI. “We welcome the Supreme Court’s view,” he said This law is correct and reasonable. Madrasas played an important role in the country’s independence. Madrasas have produced many IAS, IPS, ministers and governors for us. It is a mistake to view religious schools in this light. ”
Maulana Kab Rashidi of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind said the Supreme Court judgment conveys a very important message. “This is a very important message. Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind welcomes it,” he said.
