Apple on Monday rolled out the stable version of the macOS 15 update, also known as macOS Sequoia, to all users. However, the update seems to have caused some unexpected problems for users, especially with third-party security tools. The Cupertino-based giant’s operating system (OS) is reportedly breaking cybersecurity software from Microsoft, CrowdStrike, and others. Since the security tool maker offers enterprise-grade tools, the update could put businesses that operate exclusively on Mac devices at risk. At this time, the cause of the problem is unclear.

TechCrunch reports that the macOS Sequoia update affects the functionality of security tools developed by Microsoft, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, and other manufacturers. The publication cites a Mac-centric Slack channel where many users complained about the issue.

Gadgets 360 staff also found multiple posts on Reddit where users found that security apps stopped working after updating macOS. Some claimed that the lack of support for security tools could be due to a large number of glitches in the operating system.

One user said: “Surprisingly it’s not supported yet. The beta has been out for a while and the dev version even older – I’m guessing they have a dev account. Unless something is really wrong on Apple’s end – no excuse.”

The main concern with this issue is that many organizations use Mac devices exclusively, and problems with the security system could pose a significant risk. According to the report, a CrowdStrike sales engineer mentioned in the aforementioned Slack chatroom that despite the company’s best efforts on day one, the security tool will not be supported. It is not clear at this time whether the tool will be supported.

Another Reddit user claimed that the macOS Sequoia problem also affects applications other than security tools. The user found that almost 90% of the applications in the MacBook Pro equipped with M1 Max had problems. “I also encountered wifi problems and could not access the Internet at all, even though I could connect to the mobile hotspot.[..]If the situation remains like this, then I will not go to work tomorrow for anything,” he added.

Security researcher Will Dormann posted on Mastodon that he was experiencing DNS issues for multiple apps on his device and that the firewall was not functioning properly. So far, Apple has not made any statement on when these issues will be fixed.
