The NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is preparing to amend the Waqf Act. Today a bill to amend these acts can be presented in Parliament. There are speculations about the introduction of the bill today because the Modi government has been taking major decisions on August 5. The foundation stone of Ram temple was laid on 5 August in 2020. At the same time, in 2019, on August 5, Section 370 was removed.
According to sources, three days ago on August 2, the Cabinet approved a total of 40 amendments in the Waqf Act. After the passage of these amendments, the powers of the Waqf Board will be limited. The purpose of these amendments is to restrict the right of the Waqf Board to designate any property as ‘Waqf property’.
