LinkedIn is reportedly removing artificial intelligence (AI) tips that were previously displayed on its platform. These AI prompts will appear in premium users’ feeds, prompting them to use the service’s AI features. However, some users say these prompts have not been visible on the service for some time. The company also reportedly confirmed that it was scaling back the prompts, but did not specify the reasons for doing so. Notably, a report earlier this month claimed that the social networking platform was training its artificial intelligence models on user data without notifying them beforehand.

LinkedIn reduces AI prompts shown to premium users

LinkedIn is quietly removing artificial intelligence suggestions from its feed that power users often find, Fast Company reports. These prompts appear below each post and suggest questions users can ask about the AI. The feature is similar to what Meta launched on Facebook.

However, the visibility of these prompts has reportedly been significantly reduced. LinkedIn spokesperson Suzi Owens confirmed to the publication that the company was indeed scaling back these AI recommendations, but stressed that this was not in response to user criticism or negative perceptions of AI capabilities.

“Members can still use our AI tools on the career homepage to get personalized insights, such as how to network, position themselves for a job or learn about a company,” the spokesperson told the publication.

Questions about user criticism arose after some users reportedly found their feeds bombarded with these prompts, which were not helpful in any way. The recommendations are intended to encourage users to try the company’s AI features, which will be launched in November 2023. It’s worth noting that these prompts cannot be turned off on LinkedIn.

The Microsoft-owned platform has been criticized recently for training its artificial intelligence models without clearly informing its user base. Data collection reportedly remains the same as it appears when some users find the settings option to turn off data collection for training AI models. Shortly after, the company updated its policy to reflect its decision to collect user data.
