Pager explosions in Lebanon: Hundreds of pagers exploded simultaneously in parts of Lebanon and Syria on Tuesday, killing at least 11 people and injuring more than 3,000. The pagers used in the attacks were branded after Taiwanese company Gold Apollo but were actually manufactured by Budapest-based BAC Consulting KFT.

Gold Apollo confirmed on Wednesday that BAC Consulting KFT produced the company’s branded pagers that reportedly exploded in Lebanon and Syria during Israeli attacks on Hezbollah’s communications networks.

Reports said the explosions were mainly concentrated in the southern suburbs of Beirut, the Bekaa region in eastern Lebanon and Damascus, where the group has a strong presence.

Golden Apollo started operations in October 1995, specializing in the production of POCSAG and FLEX protocol pagers. The company’s initial goal was reportedly to produce digital pagers for Taiwan.
