Seven people were killed in a horrific terror attack on the site of a tunnel under construction in Sonamarg area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday night. Seven people, including a doctor and three non-Kashmiri labourers, were killed and five others injured in the attack. The attack took place as workers and other employees of the Gund Tunnel Project in Ganderbal were returning to the camp late at night.
According to intelligence agency sources, Lashkar-e-Taiba’s masked terror group Resistance Force (TRT) may be behind the attack. According to sources, Pakistan-based TRF Chairman Sheikh Sajjad Gul was the mastermind of the attack and on his instructions, the local module of the TRF carried out the attack. According to sources, the module has been surveying the crime scene for the past one month.
Funding provided by Pakistan Army and ISI
This is not the first time TRF has carried out such terrorist incidents. TRF has also targeted immigrants in the past. TRF is currently considered the most active terrorist organization in Kashmir. Sajid Jatt, Sajjad Gul and Salim Rahmani, who are associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, are leaders of the group. Terrorists associated with the TRF closely follow every government and political activity taking place in the state. He is also very active on social media and uses this to mislead young people.

The Resistance Front is active in Jammu and Kashmir. This is in some ways an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba. TRF started as an online unit after the abolition of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. It is believed that the TRF was created to provide cover for terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba. The Pakistan Army and the ISI collaborated openly through its backdoor, primarily leveraging Lashkar-e-Taiba’s funding channels.
“The Resistance Front (TRF) is a front company of the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba and was formed in 2019,” the home ministry told India House in March this year.
The conspiracy to found the organization was hatched from across the border. Like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Mujahideen, Pakistan’s intelligence agency the Inter-Services Intelligence Agency was also involved in the formation of the TRF. This was done to avoid Pakistan’s name appearing directly in terrorist attacks in India and to avoid being included in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) blacklist.
Lashkar-e-Taiba mask
On February 14, 2019, a major terrorist attack occurred in Pulwama. Since then, Pakistan has been exposed to the world. The attack was carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammed. As pressure mounts on Pakistan from around the world, it understands that something must be done to combat terror groups. Thereafter, he conspired to form such an organization to spread terror in India and his name was never mentioned. Later, ISI formed TRF along with Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Terrorists continue to commit crimes in Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police said in its 2022 annual report that security forces killed 172 terrorists, including 42 foreigners, in more than 90 operations in Kashmir in 2022. Most of the terrorists killed in the valley (108) belonged to the Resistance Front or Lashkar-e-Taiba. Furthermore, out of 100 people who joined terrorist groups, 74 were recruited by TRF, indicating the growing threat from Pakistan-backed terrorist groups.
Immigration remains TRF target
In 2020, TRF brutally killed BJP workers Fida Hussain, Omar Rashid Baig and Omar Hazam in Kulgam Hazam), which brought the organization’s name into the spotlight. TRF wants to bring Kashmir back to the 90s era. TRF terrorists focus on target killing. They mainly target non-Kashmiris so that people from outside the country avoid coming to Jammu and Kashmir.
On February 26, 2023, Sanjay Sharma and his wife were going to a local market in Pulwama, Kashmir, when terrorists opened fire on them. Sharma, who worked as a security guard, was taken to hospital but died from gunshot wounds. The Resistance Front (TRF) was behind the murder. The only reason TRF chose to kill Sharma was because he was a Kashmiri Pandit. Since its establishment in 2019, the terrorist organization has been involved in dozens of terrorist attacks. Especially the minorities in the valley are attacking Kashmiri Pandits.
