Hamas Chief Ismail Haniya has been killed in Iran’s capital Tehran. Haniya and her bodyguard have reportedly died in the Israeli attack. Hamas and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have confirmed this. Hamas has said in its statement that Palestinian group leader Ismail Haniya has been killed in an Israeli attack in a house in Tehran. This is the second major attack by Israel in 12 hours.

Earlier on Tuesday (July 30), Hania had attended the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new President Masoud Pejeshkian. How close Haniya was to Iran can be gauged from the fact that he is seen in a group photo with representatives of various countries. Although he had no idea that he would be destroyed that very night. After the attack on Israel on October 7 last year, Hania was hiding sometimes in Qatar and sometimes in Iran. But Israel has killed him after entering Iran.

Attack on the house where Haniya was staying

Hania had also met Iran’s Supreme Leader Imam Seyed Ali Khamenei yesterday. The very next day, i.e. Wednesday morning, Israel targeted the house in which Ismail Haniya was staying with his security personnel. The last pictures of the meeting of Hamas Chief Ismail Haniya before Israeli action have surfaced.

Iran’s Supreme Leader shared pictures a few hours ago

Iran’s Supreme Leader Imam Khamenei met Hamas Chief Ismail Haniya and General Secretary Ziad al-Nakhlah. Khamenei had also posted pictures of the meeting on his X handle 13 hours ago, i.e. at 8.05 pm on July 30. Khamenei wrote, “Met with Ismail Haniya, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement Hamas, and Ziad al-Nakhla, secretary general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement.”

At present, with the killing of Haniya, two enemies of Israel have been eliminated in 12 hours. On Tuesday, the Israeli army claimed to have killed Hezbollah’s top commander Fouad Shukar in Beirut. Earlier in April 2024, Israeli security forces had also killed Haniya’s three sons. Israel had killed Hania’s three sons in an airstrike on the Gaza Strip. Israeli army IDF had told that Haniya’s three sons Aamir, Hazem and Mohammed were going to carry out terrorist activities in Gaza, meanwhile all three came under air strikes.

Know about Hamas?

Hamas is a Palestinian Islamic organization and political party, which was founded in 1987. Its full name is Islamic Resistance Movement. The main objective of Hamas is to establish Islamic rule in the Palestinian territories and to resist Israel. This organization is most active in the Gaza Strip and has been listed as a terrorist organization by many countries. Hamas also maintains its presence through social services, education and health services.

Why did Hamas come into limelight in the Israel-Palestine war?

Hamas came into limelight in the Israel-Palestine war because this organization carries out rocket attacks and other attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip. There are frequent violent clashes between Hamas and Israel, including attacks on civilians and military targets. Additionally, Israel and the international community view Hamas as a terrorist organization due to its political and military activities. Hamas’s Islamic ideology and its role in the Palestinian independence struggle make it a center of controversy.

What revenge did Israel take?

On October 7, 2023, Hamas fighters suddenly entered Israel and fired heavy rockets and bombs. More than 1200 people were killed in the attack. Hamas fighters took 250 Israeli people hostage and took them to Gaza Strip. Hamas is still holding 150 Israeli people hostage. This is the reason why Hamas and its leader were at the top of Israel’s hit list. Haniya has run the government in Gaza for seven years.

At the same time, Hamas claims that so far more than 39 thousand Palestinian civilians have died in Israeli attacks. Israel says that it has killed more than 14 thousand fighters of Hamas and its allies in this operation.
