Large-scale cannabis destruction carried out in Poonch

Poonch, September 15: In a serious drive against electoral malpractice, the District Election Authority (DEA) under the leadership of Poonch District Returning Officer (DEO) Vikas Kundal, seized huge amount of cash, drugs, liquor and kerosene across Poonch district.

The moves are part of the Election Commission’s efforts to crack down on illegal means of influencing voters in the ongoing parliamentary elections.

Additionally, police in the region conducted a large-scale destruction operation targeting cannabis plantations, another crucial step in ensuring a free and fair electoral process.

During the operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau seized Rs 282,090 in cash, 12.28 grams of heroin worth Rs 90,000, 261 bottles of liquor worth Rs 80,000, 380 litres of kerosene and raw materials worth Rs 35,000.

In another operation, the Poonch district police station in collaboration with the Flying Squad (FST) conducted cannabis plant destruction drive at 43 locations in Surankote, Poonch and Mendhar and destroyed a total of 342 kg of cannabis worth Rs 2.34 lakh.

Poonch election expenditure observer Bharat Ramchandra Andhale praised the proactive role played by police and election officials in curbing electoral fraud and ensuring transparency.
