In Aaj Tak’s special program ‘CM Sahab’, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami interacted with Anjana Om Kashyap (Managing Editor, Special Project) and answered questions on various issues. As Chief Minister, which of his works does Pushkar Singh Dhami consider to be his best? In response to this question, he said, ‘I do not leave any stone unturned in whatever capacity I have. I try to make maximum efforts. In this, I have been getting the support and cooperation of all senior leaders including the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defense Minister.’

CM Dhami said that we have passed the UCC Bill in Uttarakhand. Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has got this pride that it is the first state in the country after independence, where Uniform Civil Code is going to be implemented. Secondly, we have made a strict law against cheating here. Our qualified and hardworking candidates and youth used to participate in the examinations, but due to the cheating mafia, they were not selected anywhere, their future was played with. After the cheating law, we have made 16 thousand appointments. After the cheating law, not a single case of paper leak came from anywhere, nor did any recruitment get stuck in a court case.

It was revealed in the meeting of the legislative party that he is going to become CM

Even after losing his own seat, what did the party leadership see in Pushkar Singh Dhami that it decided to keep him as the Chief Minister? In response to this question, CM Dhami said, ‘When the BJP government was formed in Uttarakhand in 2017, I wanted that it would have been good if my name also came in the list of the cabinet. But whatever was the arrangement of the party organization at that time, my name did not come in the cabinet. Despite that, I continued to work for the party. When I went to the meeting of the Legislature, I did not know that I was being made the CM. When my name was called, then I came to know that I was going to become the Chief Minister. When I got the responsibility of the post of Chief Minister, there were 6 months left for the elections. I just thought that since the party has given the responsibility, it is my duty to go to the entire state and convey PM Modi’s message to the people.’

Action will be taken against encroachment, land laws will be made strict

On the allegation of intimidating Muslims of the state, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister said, ‘People in our state live in harmony. It should have the form of Devbhoomi. There has been some demographic change here, illegal shrines have been built. Whatever shrines or structures were demolished, it was a case of illegal encroachment. They were built by occupying government land. Encroachment cannot be justified. We will remove encroachment in future as well.’

The Muslim population in Uttarakhand is increasing more than the national average, what is the reason behind this? On this issue, Dhami said, ‘In the past years, there was no verification here. Anyone used to come here, come after committing a crime, even those with a bad background used to come. They used to come and build houses here. That is why we have now started verification. People who have a criminal background will be identified.’ On land laws, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that anyone can buy a plot of more than 250 square feet here and this is a law from before my time, not from my time. We are looking at making a stricter law than that. Right now, a ban has been imposed on buying agricultural land.

Construction will be stopped at sensitive places like Joshimath

The number of devotees participating in the Chardham Yatra is continuously increasing. Giving information about the steps taken to manage the Yatra properly, CM Dhami said, ‘In the last three years, the number of devotees in the Chardham Yatra has increased four times. We are making arrangements for online registration around all the Dhams. The safety of the devotees is our priority. For this, we are taking all necessary steps. Development should take place and the environment should not be harmed, this is our priority. Places like Joshimath have a bearing capacity. We are getting all such places surveyed. It will be ensured that there is no new construction where the bearing capacity has been completed.’

On the Ankita Bhandari case, CM Pushkar Dhami said, ‘This was a very sad incident. As soon as we came to know about this crime, we immediately got the three accused arrested. They have gone to jail. The police collected all the evidence. The command of the SIT formed to investigate this case was handed over to a woman DIG. The SIT has collected all the facts. There are all the records, there are statements of all the witnesses. The matter of running a bulldozer on the resort is misleading. No documents were missing from there. Everything is with the SIT. Now the case is on trial. The government is pleading fully. We all believe that Ankita should get justice. Our effort will be that those who have committed this crime should be punished.
