In the decades after independence, women’s participation in electoral politics was neither high nor valued. The reason for this could be that most women did not vote. However, now women have the power to create and change power. That is why more election promises are made to help women or schemes are launched keeping them in mind.

The Congress returned to power in Haryana and the BJP remains in power, with both parties paying special attention to women. Both parties’ manifestos contain many promises to women.

The Congress promised that if it comes to power, every woman between the ages of 18 and 60 will get Rs 2,000 per month. The BJP has gone a step further than this. In its ‘Sankalp Patra’, the BJP has promised that after the elections, a ‘Lado Lakshmi Yojana’ will be launched, where every woman will get Rs 2,100 per month.

According to the Election Commission, Haryana has about 9.6 million women voters. Data from the past two assembly elections show that women in Haryana vote at the same rate as men. In 2014, 76% of women voters cast their ballots, while in 2019, 67% of women voters cast their ballots.
