Nioma Airport
India’s highest airport at Neoma in eastern Ladakh is ready. The construction of the airport will enhance India’s national security and border connectivity with China. The airport was built just 46 kilometers away from the Line of Actual Control. The Indian Air Force is scheduled to conduct its first official test flight from the newly built, state-of-the-art Nioma Air Force Base in eastern Ladakh this month. This is the highest runway in India.
With the help of this airport located at an altitude of 13,700 feet, India will be able to mobilize defense forces along the LAC at a very short notice if required. Pneoma ALG will strengthen India’s strategic capabilities in this area. The heaviest military aircraft, fixed-wing, rotary-wing aircraft, fighter jets and transport aircraft can land on this runway.

Rafale, Tejas, Sukhoi 30 and MiG-29 fighter jets can also take off and land from this airport. It will be used in war operations. China remains concerned about the airport’s construction.
The project was approved in 2021 with a budget of approximately Rs 214 crore. The project is part of the Indian government’s strategic ambitions. The goal is to strengthen the country’s border security and improve military capabilities.
India is strengthening its capabilities along the Line of Actual Control
This airport is also important as China has been building airports near the Indian border for the past few years. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s Western Theater Command is building 30 airports. The command monitors the border with India. Under such circumstances, India also needs to constantly update its military posture in eastern Ladakh.
India’s highest runway
The runway built by BRO will also promote the socio-economic development of Hanley, Loma and Neoma. The temperature here drops to -30 to 35 degrees Celsius in winter. The foundation stone of this runway was laid by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. It was built in record time. This is the highest runway in India.
BRO uses modern technology, modern machines, cold styling compounds, various additives to ensure manufacturing quality. This allows the aircraft to land and take off at high speeds without affecting its quality.
