Ladakh earthquake: The earthquake was felt in Ladakh with an intensity of 4.3 on the Richter scale.

An earthquake occurred in Ladakh at around 4 pm on Wednesday, and the local people fell into panic. However, due to the low intensity of the earthquake, no casualties or property losses were caused. Earthquakes are nothing new in a geographically sensitive region like Ladakh. The region lies on the Himalayan tectonic plate and is prone to mild and moderate earthquakes.

The National Seismological Center (NCS) said the earthquake had an intensity of 4.3 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake is said to be 10 kilometers underground in the Ladakh region of Leh. The earthquake was recorded at 4:23 p.m.

What to do and what not to do during an earthquake

If you are inside a building and feel the shaking of an earthquake, sit on the ground or get under sturdy furniture immediately. Stay away from windows and heavy objects. If you are outdoors, stay away from trees, poles and power lines as they pose a fall hazard.

If you are driving a vehicle, stop immediately and secure your vehicle. Also, if you are trapped in rubble after an earthquake, never light a match or push anything. Doing so may cause more debris to fall out. If you are trapped under rubble, instead of screaming, make soft noises on objects so rescuers can find you.
