Mayank Bidawatka, co-founder of social media platform Koo, is planning to start a new venture called Billion Hearts Software Technologies.

“The name Billion Hearts represents the dreams of many people. Hopefully, this startup will build beautiful digital products for billions of users around the world,” Mayank Bidawatka said in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday.

Bidawatka said the startup will be launched in a few months and will build consumer products for users around the world, according to the Billion Hearts Software website.

In an earlier LinkedIn post, Bidawatka said, “I have talked about starting a business. We are now a team of 15 and building what we set out to build. We have also received angel funding from some close and amazing founder friends who have built prominent consumer tech startups in India. And are busy negotiating with some prominent VCs for seed funding.”

Gu’s Journey

Bidawatka previously founded Koo, an Indian social media platform and microblogging site, often referred to as the Indian version of Twitter. The company was co-founded in 2020 by Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidawatka.

The app was reportedly shut down in July 2023 after talks with several companies including DailyHunt for a sale or merger failed. Co-founder Aprameya Radhakrishna announced the closure of Koo in a LinkedIn post on July 3.

“This is a final update from our side. Our partnership talks have failed and we will cease providing services to the public. We explored partnerships with multiple large internet companies, conglomerates, and media houses, but those talks did not produce the results we desired,” Radhakrishna wrote.

“The prolonged funding winter we encountered at our peak hurt our plans at the time and we had to slow down our growth trajectory… Unfortunately, market sentiment and the funding winter got the better of us. Market timing is an underestimated variable. It can define and underestimate everything at times. Koo could have easily expanded internationally and created a truly made-in-India global brand for India. That dream will live on,” he added.
