Protests are continuing across the country over the incident of rape and murder of a trainee female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Doctors and other medical staff are protesting in different parts of the country. There is an atmosphere of unrest in Kolkata after this incident.

The Durand Cup match between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, scheduled at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday (August 18), was canceled due to the ongoing unrest in the city. Now players have also come out on the streets in protest against this gruesome incident. On Sunday, Indian football team defender and Mohun Bagan captain Subhashish Bose along with his wife Kasturi Chhetri participated in the protest march in Kolkata. Thousands of fans of Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting also participated in the protest.

Indian Football Federation President Kalyan Choubey was also seen in the protest march. 29 year old Subhashish Bose has played 38 matches for India so far. Subhashish’s wife Kasturi is a model by profession. After being in a relationship for many years, Subhashish married Kasturi Chhetri in the year 2021.

Subhashish Bose said during this time, ‘Definitely we demand punishment for all those involved in the barbaric attack on the female doctor and the rape of her. He was subjected to an unimaginable attack and was brutally killed. I hope that no other woman will have to go through such torture.

Said this when the match was canceled

On this occasion, when asked about the cancellation of the Durand Cup match against East Bengal, Bose said, ‘If the match had happened, no one would have been happier than me. I always want to see more derbies. But this was the government’s decision and they felt it was necessary.

He said, ‘The bigger issue though is justice and I will always stand for it. Irrespective of the rain, supporters of both the teams initially gathered outside the stadium. Supporters of both the clubs were holding each other’s flags. They raised slogans demanding justice for the victim’s family. A large number of policemen were keeping an eye on the situation. Later, Mohammedan SC supporters also joined the protest.
