The CBI, which is investigating the Kolkata rape and murder case, on Monday started the second round of polygraph test on former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, and five others. According to a CBI official, Sandip Ghosh did not give the correct answers during the first polygraph test. He is trying to mislead. Due to this, his polygraph test has to be done again.

On Saturday, the CBI conducted a lie detector test on six people including Sandip Ghosh. After this, on Sunday, the main accused Sanjay Roy was subjected to a polygraph test in the Presidency Jail. Apart from this, a corruption case is also being investigated against former principal Sandip Ghosh and former medical superintendent Sanjay Vashisht. In this connection, the CBI has raided about 15 locations.

On Sunday, the CBI searched the houses of Sandip Ghosh and Sanjay Vashisht, which went on till late night. On Monday morning, files and documents were presented at the CBI office in Salt Lake, Kolkata. An official said, “After the search on Sunday, many questions have been asked to the accused.” This action has been taken after a complaint by Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RGKMCH.

The CBI is tightening its grip on former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh. He has been questioned for more than 100 hours in the last 10 days. Last week on Saturday, the CBI registered a case of financial irregularities against him. The CBI took over the investigation from the SIT formed by the West Bengal government on the instructions of the Calcutta High Court.

The High Court had first handed over the investigation of the case of rape and murder of the lady doctor to the CBI. After this, to ensure a comprehensive and fair investigation, the investigation of the financial irregularities of Sandeep Ghosh was also handed over to the CBI. Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj had said, “This court directs that the investigation be handed over to the CBI, as serious allegations are involved in this case.”

The court had ordered a CBI inquiry on the petition of Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who had alleged financial irregularities during the tenure of former hospital principal Sandip Ghosh and demanded an ED inquiry. Akhtar Ali had filed a complaint with the West Bengal Police in July last year, but did not get justice.

Akhtar Ali had provided documentary evidence to substantiate his claims of rampant corruption, improper use of government funds, sale of used hazardous bio-medical waste and transfer of officials for monetary gain. It cited the serious impact of such illegal activities on public health and safety as well as misuse of public funds.
