The CBI claimed that the CFSL report had confirmed that the semen belonged to Sanjay Roy. The charge sheet shows that Sanjay Roy was proven guilty of the crime based on extensive physical evidence, circumstantial evidence and forensic reports. Kolkata police arrested him within 24 hours of the incident. The charge sheet stated that on August 9, the short hair found at the crime scene was sent to the forensic laboratory for investigation.
