The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is carrying out searches in the Bengal capital in connection with the alleged financial scam involving the RG Kar Medical Centre and Hospital linked to the Kolkata rape-murder case. Of the four locations being raided by the financial watchdog in Kolkata, two belong to Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Hospital, officials said.

Apart from this, the investigating agency is also conducting raids at two other places, these places are in Laketown and Tala areas of the city, where the office of a medical supplier and the residence of a medical supply seller are located.

There have been raids in some places earlier as well

Recently, ED had raided several places in Howrah, Sonarpur and Hooghly in the state in this case. About two weeks ago, the central investigating agency had registered a case against alleged financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College.

The case has been registered on the basis of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR that named Dr Sandip Ghosh in connection with the probe into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor on August 9. In the FIR, the CBI has invoked Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act as well as charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and dishonesty in connection with financial manipulation at RG Kar Medical College.

Dr Sandip Ghosh was working as the principal of RG Kar Hospital from February 2021 to September 2023, however, he was transferred in October 2023 but resumed his role at the hospital within a month.
