Kolkata: 2 more arrests in sand mafia firing case, bullets were fired over price

Police have arrested two accused in the firing case over sand business at Babu Ghat in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Both are accused of firing after a dispute over the price of sand. One person was already caught by the mob in this case. One person was injured due to the bullet shot and was admitted to the hospital.

In this case, the police have arrested two people of the promoter gang, Arif and Asif Ali. However, the main accused Tinku is still absconding. The police have arrested the accused from Topsia area of Kolkata. Police sources say that the accused had a licensed weapon, which is being tried to seize.

Actually, on the night of August 1, there was a shootout over sand trading at Babu Ghat in Kolkata. According to sources, a sand trader named Ajit Roy and his men were present with a truck full of sand. At that time, Asif Ali, a notorious promoter of Topsia area, arrived with his gang and started bargaining at around 1:30 in the night.

It is alleged that there was a heated argument between the two groups over the price of sand. During this, promoter Asif Ali allegedly opened fire to scare the traders. According to sources, a driver of sand trader Ajit Roy was shot in the leg. After the incident, accused Asif Ali managed to escape from the spot, but a member of Asif’s gang was caught by the crowd.

The driver was admitted to the hospital

After the firing, the Kolkata Police force immediately reached the spot and arrested an injured member of the notorious promoter Asif Ali’s gang. The police also rushed businessman Ajit Roy and his driver to SSKM Hospital for treatment. His driver was admitted to SSKM Hospital after suffering from bullet injuries.
