Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal
Arvind Kejriwal is busy maintaining his dominance over Delhi politics these days. Although Kejriwal has handed over the chief minister’s post to Atish, he has kept the political power of Aam Aadmi Party in his hands. Kejriwal has started repairing the weak bastion of Aam Aadmi’s party amid the political excitement surrounding the assembly elections. By integrating strong leaders from the Congress and the BJP into the Aam Aadmi Party, Kejriwal dealt a huge blow to both of them politically.
Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal has inducted former Congress MLA Chaudhary Mateen’s son Zubair Ahmed and his wife Shagufta Chaudhary into the party. Zubair Ahmed serves as Babarpur district Congress president and his wife Shagufta Chaudhary serves as MP. Similarly, Arvind Kejriwal also conferred membership of the Aam Aadmi Party to Brahm Singh Tanwar, a three-time BJP MP from Mehrauli. In this way, Kejriwal tried to create political and regional balance by bringing in senior leaders from North and South Delhi regions.
Martin family holds stake in North Derry
In 2020, due to the Delhi riots, the political landscape of the Aam Aadmi Party in North Delhi was disrupted. As a result, Aam Aadmi’s party was unable to win the UDF elections in the Muslim areas of North Delhi. The Congress won the Muslim-dominated seats from Seelampur to Mustafabad and Babarpur districts, while the Aam Aadmi Party had to face defeat. Arvind Kejriwal is now busy fixing the equation in Northeast Delhi given the political heat of the assembly elections. Accordingly, Chaudhary Mateen’s family members have joined the Aam Aadmi Party.
Chaudhary Mateen Ahmed is considered one of the important leaders of the Congress Party in Delhi. He is also the MLA from Seerampur district. Chaudhary Matin Ahmed served as MLA from Seelampur seat from 1993 to 2015. Now, his son Zubair has left the Congress and joined the Aam Aadmi Party. It is believed that Kejriwal could field Zubair from Seelampur. This is a seat with a large Muslim electorate. The Aam Aadmi Party also needs such a face in this regard and Chaudhary Mateen’s family is fulfilling this requirement.
If Zubair Ahmed is elected from the Seelampur assembly seat, the Aam Aadmi Party can field votes from Seelampur as well as other seats in north Delhi including Babarpur, Mustafabad) benefited. Chaudhary Mateen controls both Muslim and Hindu voters. As part of Kejriwal’s strategy to strengthen Aam Aadmi’s party’s weak presence in Muslim areas, he brought in the Mateen family, which has a strong base.
Killing two birds with one stone across Brahma
Arvind Kejriwal has dealt a heavy blow to the BJP ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. Kejriwal on Thursday conferred membership of the Aam Aadmi Party to three-time BJP MP Brahm Singh Tanwar. By joining the Aam Aadmi Party on Diwali, Brahm Singh Tanwar launched an initiative to kill more birds with one stone. Brahm Tanwar hails from the Gurjar community and has a strong presence in rural South Delhi. He served three times as a provincial councilor and three times as a counselor.
The BJP continues to try to establish political control in south Delhi, while the Aam Aadmi Party’s base is eroding. In Delhi’s Gurjhar district, the Aam Aadmi Party does not have any strong Gurjhar community leader whom Kejriwal can assign to deliver a political message. The BJP has been busy helping the Gujjars. Ramveer Singh Bidhuri is a BJP MP from South Delhi, while former MPs Ramesh Bidhuri and Bram Singh Bidhuri Brahm Singh Bidhuri) is the leader of the fire brand Gurjar. The Aam Aadmi Party needs a Gurjhar leader given the political control of the BJP over the Gurjhar votes in south Delhi.
Kill two birds with one stone
On one hand, Kejriwal joins three-time MP Brahm Singh Tanwar in delivering a huge political blow to the BJP, while on the other a Gurjar leader. The largest vote bank in Delhi’s OBC polls is Gurjar community. Kejriwal himself has included Bram Singh and praised his political stance and it is clear that the party will try to promote him as the Gujjar face of Delhi. The Gujjars have become the core vote bank of the BJP in Delhi and they are seen as part of the strategy to merge with them.
