The Jammu and Kashmir government has sanctioned three days of special casual leave for Kashmiri migrant employees posted in the Kashmir Valley to enable them to vote at special polling stations during the upcoming assembly elections.

The order, issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) Commissioner Secretary, cites a communiqué from the J&K Chief Electoral Officer and specifies the following:

  • Kashmiri migrant employees who are eligible voters of certain assembly constituencies going to polls in the first phase on September 18, 2024, will have special three-day casual leave from September 17 to 19, 2024.
  • Those eligible voters of assembly constituencies going to polls in the second phase on September 25, 2024, will have special three-day casual leave from September 24 to 26, 2024.
  • Similarly, Kashmiri migrant employees who are eligible voters of assembly constituencies going to polls in the third phase on October 1, 2024, will have special three-day casual leave from September 30 to October 2, 2024.

The move aims to facilitate the participation of Kashmiri migrant employees in the electoral process and ensure their right to vote at special polling stations set up at Jammu, Udhampur, and Delhi.
