Siddaramaiah, BJP and waqf controversy.
In Karnataka, the issue of issuing notices to Muslim farmers by declaring their lands as waqf properties has become heated. First, farmers in Vijaypura in the state complained. Now, farmers of Kalaburagi, Bidar and Shivamogga have also complained that their lands have been notified and have been declared the property of the Waqf Board. The BJP claimed that the land of the mosque and temple had been declared the property of the Waqf Board.
The Congress-led Siddaramaiah government has been in trouble after such allegations were made in many parts of the state, with the BJP also making it an issue ahead of assembly by-elections.
Farmers from Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Bidar and Shivamogga claim that the Waqf Board has issued notices asking them to vacate their land, even though they have been cultivating it for over a century and have no documents to prove that they own all the land. Related documents.

Even after CM Siddaramaiah, Law Minister HK Patil and Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda assured to withdraw the notification and withdraw the mutation, the BJP is not ready to give up on the issue easily. The BJP has demanded the removal of waqf minister Zameer Ahmed Khan from the cabinet and announced state-wide protests on November 4.
BJP MP Tejashwi Surya also filed a petition with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, seeking intervention in the matter.
What is Karnataka Waqf Property Dispute?
1500 acres of land in Vijaypura has been declared as Waqf property. In this regard, notices have been issued to farmers. Following this, the guardian of a mosque submitted a memorandum to Congress MP and BJP leader Govind Karjol to save his land from being acquired by the Waqf Board. In response, farmers have threatened to protest.
After the farmers’ movement was announced, the BJP started pressuring the Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka on the issue. BJP MP Tejashwi Surya has announced an agitation in this regard and will hold state-wide demonstrations on November 4. The BJP demanded the resignation of the minister.
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday accused the Congress of converting farmers’ and temples’ land into waqf properties due to vote-bank politics and said it would fight the practice “with all possible strength”.
BJP accused of vote bank politics
Senior BJP leader and former law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad cited notices issued to farmers in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district for alleged encroachment on waqf properties and claimed that One temple made similar accusations.
He said that within three weeks, 44 farmers had received such notices. The Congress is doing this because of its vote-banking politics, while the BJP “will fight tooth and nail against any such attempt”.
He alleged that soon after the controversy began, Karnataka Law Minister MB Patil tried to downplay the crisis by blaming the notification on an error in the Gazette.
