Jagdambika Pal, Chairman, JPC, Waqf Amendment Bill.
Jagadambikar Pal, chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Waqf Amendment Bill, visited Hubli on Thursday to review the Karnataka waqf dispute. After the visit, Jagdambikar Pal claimed that this could not have happened without the cooperation of the administrative machinery. Following the instructions of the state government, the waqf properties were mentioned in the farmers’ documents.
He said farmers’ lands, temples and sites were described in the documents as waqf properties. A delegation of 10 to 15 farmers is expected to submit a memorandum. However, more than 70 reports in this regard have been received so far.
they say All of this cannot happen without the cooperation of the administrative system. It has been declared a waqf property on the instructions of the state government. He said now the state government has said they will withdraw the notification issued to farmers. Property cannot be seized without the approval of the state government. A report will be prepared after hearing the complaint
Jagdambikar Pal said that all reports will be taken seriously and a report will be prepared. He said that the central government will amend the “Religious Funds Law 2024”. Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya drew my attention to the issue of Karnataka. Even in a state like Delhi, farmers face the problem of waqf. The Waqf Board suddenly laid claim to land that farmers here had cultivated for decades.
He said the Waqf Board would take back the land that had been used for agricultural activities for the past 60 to 70 years. This is why farmers are protesting. Today I visited Hubli and also visited Vijpur district. Religious endowments lay claim not only to farmers’ farmland but also to the cultural heritage sector’s heritage.
Allegations raised, waqf is making claims over farmers’ land
Let us tell you that when the waqf dispute in Karnataka deepened, Congress MP Tejashwi Surya wrote to Jagadambika Pal in this regard a few days ago. He requested that a delegation of farmers from Karnataka be invited as witnesses before the committee. Now the chairman of the parliamentary committee has personally reached the state and listened to the farmers’ complaints.
The Congress party, on the other hand, claimed that during the previous BJP government, a notification was issued to register the names of waqfs in the property records of farmers. Meanwhile, BJP leaders and farmers are conducting a day-long protest in Vijpur. The JPC chairman will also go there to hear the farmers’ complaints.
