The Karnataka Education Department has stopped the Best Principal Award declared to PU College Principal BG Ramakrishna. The Education Department has taken this decision after strong opposition from SDIP. SDIP had tweeted and objected to Principal Ramakrishna getting the award.

In fact, on Tuesday, the Karnataka government announced that on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, a total of 41 teachers, principals and lecturers, including Principal Ramakrishna BG of Government Pre-University College in Kundapur of Udupi district, would be given the Best Teacher Award. After this decision of the government, a section of activists and educationists expressed displeasure by objecting to the name of Ramakrishna and alleged that he was among those who raised the issue of hijab in educational institutions during the BJP government.

After protests arose over the name of BG Ramakrishna, the Siddaramaiah government of Karnataka put a stay on the decision to give him the award.

SDIP expressed displeasure

SDIP’s state general secretary protested against the Karnataka government’s decision and wrote on Twitter, “Community work done during BJP government’s tenure rewarded with Congress government’s award…? Ramakrishna B.G., who is working as the principal of Government Under Graduate College, Kundapur, who had prevented girl students from entering the college two years ago in the Hijab controversy and instigated Hindu students, leading to communal tension in the entire state. Now the Congress government is planning to give him the best teacher award. The Congress government is giving this award to the principal who is active in the promotion of Hindutva.”

During the BJP government’s tenure, Kundapura Government Pre-University College principal Ramakrishna BG was involved in communal activities. Two years ago, amid the hijab controversy, he stopped girl students at the gate and indirectly incited Hindu students against them, leading to communal unrest in the state. Despite this, the Congress government is now giving him a state-level honour. This move raises questions on whether other personalities like Jagadish Karanth or Kalladka can also be honoured in the future.

There was a controversy in the year 2022

Let us tell you that this controversy arose from February 2022, when Ramakrishna barred female students wearing hijab from attending classes.
