Kanpur: Railways claims, Sabarmati Express derailed after hitting a boulder placed on the track, IB called for investigation

A train accident took place this morning in Kanpur, UP. Here 22 coaches of the train derailed. Regarding this accident, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that the engine of Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Ahmedabad) collided with something kept on the track near Kanpur at 2:35 am today. After this it derailed. Some marks have been seen after this incident. Some marks were found near the 16th coach of the loco. According to preliminary investigation, there is no fracture in the railway track.

The Railway Minister has written on his social media handle X that the evidence of the accident has been secured. IB and UP Police are also busy investigating the case. There were no injuries to passengers or employees in this incident. Train arrangements have been made for passengers to Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, Kanpur ADM City Rakesh Verma said that 22 bogies have derailed, fortunately no one has been injured. All the passengers are being sent back to the station by bus. A memo train is also coming here. There have been no casualties in any way.

Regarding this accident, the driver has also said that prima facie the accident happened due to the boulder hitting the engine, because as soon as the boulder hit the engine, the cattle guard of the engine got bent.

Goods train derails in Siliguri’s Ranga Pani
