December 12, 2024: New Delhi: Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has spoken out about Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash’s suicide, condemning his estranged wife and her family for allegedly misusing legal provisions. The 34-year-old techie left a 24-page suicide note and an 84-minute video accusing his wife of harassment and blackmail, sparking nationwide outrage.

“The entire country is in shock. His video is heartbreaking… Fake feminism is reprehensible. According to Subhash, his wife was receiving alimony of Rs 40,000 per month despite working at Accenture and earning her own income. She allegedly demanded an additional fee of Rs 2-4 lakh and filed multiple legal cases against him, his parents and his brother, including allegations of dowry harassment, unnatural sex and even murder.

Although his wife withdrew some cases, the relentless legal pressure left Subhas exhausted. His family claimed that he had to travel between Bengaluru and Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh more than 40 times to address various allegations leveled by his wife and her family.

As Subhash’s video and suicide note went viral, police registered a case of abetment to suicide against his wife Nikita Singhania, her mother, brother and uncle. Investigation is ongoing, Bangalore Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivakumar confirmed the tragic incident.

Subhas’ case highlights the urgent need for legal reform to ensure that both men and women are protected from systemic abuse while addressing the emotional and financial toll that marital disputes can take on families.
