The collegium meeting was held on Monday and was chaired by Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna. He hereby recommended Justice D Krishnakumar to be the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. D Krishnakumar is currently a judge of the Madras High Court. The Supreme Court committee has issued a recommendation to the Center for his appointment. The decision was taken by a division bench headed by CJI Sanjeev Khanna and comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice Surya Kant. Justice Siddharth Mridul will retire from the post of Chief Judge of the Manipur High Court on November 21.
The commission said Justice Mridul will retire on November 21. This will leave the post of Chief Judge of Manipur High Court vacant. Therefore, this appointment is necessary. Justice Krishna Kumar, who is currently a judge of the Madras High Court, is proposed to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court with effect from the date on which the present Chief Justice steps down from office upon retirement.
Justice Krishna Kumar to retire on May 21, 2025
The commission said Justice Krishnakumar was appointed as a judge of the Madras High Court on April 7, 2016. He will retire on May 21, 2025. He is the most senior judge of the High Court in his home state. Belongs to a backward society. He had a long practice in the High Court in civil, constitutional and services matters before being promoted to High Court Judge. He has expertise in constitutional law.

The committee said Justice Krishnakumar was an efficient and capable judge. He is honest and truthful. While recommending the name of Justice Krishnakumar, the committee also took into consideration that among the existing Chief Justices of the High Courts, only one is from the Madras High Court.
