In this case, the amount charged in the name of booking the banquet hall shall be refunded. A consumer court in the national capital made the comments while passing judgment in favor of someone.

A consumer court has directed a private company to refund Rs 1 lakh deposit to a person who had booked a wedding hall in June 2020 but could not use it due to the Covid-19 lockdown. Delhi’s Kashmere Gate District Consumer Disputes Redressal Committee chairman Inder Jeet Singh and member Rashmi Bansal imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the group for causing mental agony to the complainant and directed it to pay Rs 5,000 as litigation costs.
The Marriage Hall did not refund the advance payment
The Central Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum is hearing a complaint alleging that Wedding Opera, a subsidiary of SG Hospitality, misappropriated Rs 1 lakh from deposits for booking a wedding hall for a wedding on June 29, 2020. The money has not yet been returned. The complainant, Sunil Kumar Khurana, stated that Wedding Opera neither postponed the wedding date nor refunded the booking amount despite repeated requests, causing him mental pain and hardship and causing financial losses.
6% interest on the refund amount
The forum made its decision on October 15 and published it recently. The forum said: “The respondent (marriage drama) improperly retained the amount paid by the complainant, especially when the government ordered a nationwide lockdown… The complainant was not at fault.” The forum directed the group to withdraw funds from the date of deposit (2020 Starting from March 12), in addition to fines and legal costs, this amount should be refunded with 6% interest.
