Joshimath like situation in Bageshwar… Mountains cracked, cracks on roads and houses, 200 families ready for displacement

Massive landslides are taking place in 11 villages of Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand. Large cracks have appeared in roads, fields and houses in Kunwari, Kanda and Kapkot areas. The situation has worsened due to heavy rains and large-scale mining in Kapkot and Kanda. Due to this, more than 200 families are demanding displacement.

The Uttarakhand Disaster Management Authority has declared 11 villages in Bageshwar district as sensitive. A total of 450 houses are in danger here. Among them, 131 families in villages like Kunwari and Seri are affected by landslides. At the same time, many villages near the soapstone mines in Kanda area and Rima area are facing land subsidence. Cracks have appeared in roads and houses.

In Kapkot, the signs of crumbling hills and landslides are clearly visible. Falling hills have become the identity of Kunwari village. Once again, landslides are happening in the hills of Kunwari village. The villagers are in panic due to landslides happening both behind and in front of the houses. 54 families are still waiting to be relocated to a safe place. At the same time, more than two dozen families in Seri village of Kanda tehsil are also affected by the landslide, who are demanding displacement.

Sub-district magistrate Kapkot Anurag Arya said that 11 villages have been selected as sensitive in the district. Preparations have been made to displace the affected families. Apart from this, the areas are being investigated. If other villages apart from this village also face such problems, then action will be taken for their displacement. A proposal has been sent to the government to displace 58 families in Kunwari village. 10 families of Seri village have already been displaced. 8 new proposals have come for which action is being taken for displacement.
