An encounter is going on between security forces and terrorists in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Army has so far confirmed the killing of one terrorist in this encounter. There is information that some more terrorists are surrounded in the area and security forces are searching for them. Earlier today, Indian Army Captain Deepak Singh was seriously injured by a bullet in an encounter while chasing terrorists. He was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment where he died.
The encounter broke out in a densely forested area during a cordon and search operation (CASO) launched by a joint team to locate a group of foreign terrorists hiding in the Shivgarh-Assar belt, officials said. Four blood-stained rucksacks (large back bags ranging from 55 to 105 liters) have been recovered from the encounter site. Officials said that an AK-47 and some M-4 carbines were also found from the spot. The terrorists were hiding on the banks of a river in Assar.
According to officials, there was a brief exchange of fire between the security forces and the terrorists, after which the terrorists entered Doda through the forest near Patnitop in nearby Udhampur district. Security forces had established contact with the terrorists in Udhampur at around 6 pm on Tuesday evening. The entire area was cordoned off overnight. The search operation was resumed in daylight. Officials said that the encounter started again at around 7.30 am today.

Captain Deepak Singh, who was martyred after being shot during an encounter with terrorists in Doda, was posted as a Signal Officer in Counter Insurgency 48 Rashtriya Rifles. He was leading the Quick Reaction Team, which was searching for the terrorists hiding in Assar, Doda. Along with being a captain in the Rashtriya Rifles, he was also a brilliant hockey player.
